A moving story about a man in hospital and his dog.
Some of you may know that Dave, the founder of PinkUk LGBTQ+ listings site, had a heart attack that resulted in him spending 19 days in hospital. During his stay he had a quadruple heart bypass and caught pneumonia.
Dave is serialising his journey into three monthly parts: firstly, the heart attack itself, being admitted to hospital and the run up to the operation. The second part covers his time in hospital post-op and the final part the long recovery process.
This is well worth a read as you may have a heart attack in your lifetime, so you may like to read one person’s journey. Heart and circulatory diseases cause a quarter of all deaths in the UK, according to the British Heart Foundation.
While in hospital Dave also suffered depression and anxiety, but not for his own sake. It was for Stanley; no, not his boyfriend but his adorable Sprocker Spaniel. Stanley was left behind when Dave had to go into hospital, and stayed with a friend of Dave’s. He didn’t eat, hardly drank anything and just sat at his mate’s front door, waiting form Dave to come in.
Dave was worried that Stanley was thinking he was being abandoned again and why had Dave done this? This had happened three times already in his life (he is a rescue). Dave tells the story of how the hospital staff were so accommodating to his worries and every one ending up being happy (including Stanley). He also goes on to explain what is involved in the bypass operation.
